In a recent chat with Deadline at the Sundance Film Festival on January 18, Dominique Thorne revealed that the filming for the upcoming Marvel series ‘Ironheart’ has wrapped up. This announcement came after the shootings restarted following the reported end of the show’s production in early 2023. Throne shared:
“Filming has concluded, indeed. I mean, I can say strap in, get ready. It will be a ride, much like they all are. It is an epic journey, and one that I’m very excited to share.”
‘Ironheart’ recently faced a minor hiccup when it was temporarily removed from Marvel’s release schedule, but fans can expect news of a new premiere date soon.
The Show Is A Sequel
Dominique Thorne first appeared as Riri Williams in the 2022 movie ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ Her performance led to the creation of ‘Ironheart’ as a sequel, as producer Nate Moore shared his views on the actress’ role and the upcoming show in a previous interview by saying:
“That show is an outgrowth of how much we liked her in this movie and even on the page. So, when we talked with [Dominique Throne] initially, obviously, the character had been written to the script, and she was the one and only person we talked about for the role. When she said yes, and we were down the road with the script, we also started talking with [Ryan Coogler] about what the show could be.”
He continued:
“So, the show is a direct sequel to the movie, and [Riri Williams] is carrying the experiences she had in this movie back home to MIT. And there are some interesting repercussions to her adventures that will set her on a fun course.”
What Will ‘Ironheart’ Be About?
In the comics, Riri Williams is inspired by Tony Stark, who becomes a mentor figure to her. While Stark’s absence in the series, following his death in ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ changes this dynamic, ‘Ironheart’ is expected to continue Iron Man’s legacy in its own way.
The series will also introduce new villains. Anthony Ramos is set to play The Hood, while there’s speculation about Sacha Baron Cohen joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mephisto, though his involvement has not been officially confirmed yet.
