In a recent stint with Vanity Fair’s ‘Lie Detector Test,’ Donald Glover’s co-star from ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ reboot, Maya Erskine, asked him about his cameo in the ‘Spider-Verse.’ She questioned whether the part was Sony’s way of saying sorry for not casting him as Spider-Man earlier. Glover laughed off the question, saying:
“I don’t think they even thought about it. There’s definitely going to be like a Miles Morales live-action eventually, and I think they’re probably more concerned with me being Prowler in that or something like that. I’m too old to be Spider-Man now.”
The actor’s connection to the Spider-Man world goes back to 2010 when he and his fans pushed for him to audition for the Marvel hero in Marc Webb’s movie through a campaign called #DonaldforSpiderman.
Glover Appeared In The Franchise
Even though Andrew Garfield got the lead role in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ film series, Glover’s link to the character went on, as he lent his voice to Miles Morales in the ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ animated series and played Morales’ uncle, Aaron in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’
He appeared as a live-action version of Prowler in a ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’ scene, as Miguel O’Hara’s Spider-Society walked around in Nueva York.
He Was An Inspiration For Miles Morales’ Spider-Man
The actor’s appearance in ‘Community,’ wearing Spider-Man pajamas in one scene, partly inspired Miles’ design. The Afro-Latino character’s co-creator, Brian Michael Bendis, shared in a 2011 chat with USA Today:
“He looked fantastic! I saw him in the costume and thought, ‘I would like to read that book.’ So, I was glad I was writing that book.”
Right now, Glover is busy with ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ on Amazon Prime Video and is also working on a ‘Star Wars’ movie about Lando Calrissian with his brother, Stephen Glover.
