Dwayne Johnson Sings ‘Moana’ Song In A New Video For The Live-Action Adaptation

The movie’s production will start this fall, and Johnson will reprise his role as Maui.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson shared a behind-the-scenes video for ‘Moana’ on Instagram.

In the video, he’s singing ‘You’re Welcome’ from the movie ‘Moana.’ It’s a sneak peek into the upcoming live-action adaptation of the movie, where Johnson will reprise his role as Maui. ‘The  Rock’ wrote the following in the caption:

“‘Openness, ease, swing swing swing’ was my direction. Hold my tequila, I mean ‘tea.’ ‘You’re Welcome’ scratch vocals for our upcoming live-action film, MOANA. Cool day of work with this very talented cadre of artists & filmmakers. Production begins this fall.”

Johnson says the production for the live-action Moana is set to begin this fall. He also stated that he worked with Thomas Kail, Alex Lacamoire, and Lin-Manuel Miranda on this project.

You can watch Johnson sing the song below.

The Original Moana Won’t Be Back

Auliʻi Cravalho voiced Moana when she was 14, but she will not be playing the character in the live-action version. She said on Instagram that the role should be portrayed by an ‘accurate’ actress:

“As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, live-action ‘Moana’ is in the works and you all have been waiting very patiently for updates. So, I’ve written a few things down. When I was cast as Moana at 14, it wonderfully changed my life and started my career. In this live-action retelling, I will not be reprising the role. I believe it is absolutely vital [that] the cast accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell.”

Cravalho will still be involved in the film as an executive producer.

Disney also announced ‘Moana 2’ earlier this year. The sequel will be released in theaters later in 2024. Both Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will return to voice Moana and Maui.
