Elisabeth Moss Talks About ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Finale: ‘It’s For The Fans’

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’s next season will wrap up the story in 2025.

Hulu renewed ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ for a sixth and final season following the release of Season 5 in 2022. Lead actress Elisabeth Moss recently told Business Insider that the finale will be a nod to the longtime viewers:

“I think this whole season is absolutely for the fans. It’s definitely for our audience. It’s definitely for the people that have stuck with us for five seasons, and we’re kind of making this one for them.”

Season 6 will start production this summer, but Moss already knows how the story will end:

“I’ve known for a while how it was going to end, so I don’t think I can say anything. I’m too scared to say the wrong thing accidentally. I’m too nervous.”

The June Osborne actress will also direct four episodes this season, including the premiere and the series finale.

The Series Finale And What Will Follow

Most actors from Season 5 will likely return for the final episodes, but the ending will drift away from Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name.

Show creator Bruce Miller previously told Digital Spy the show would end ‘on our own terms.’ He explained:

“The book is so frustrating at the end, because the book just ends. And everybody’s like, ‘How could you, Bruce Miller… Who do you think you are, writing more?’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God, it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do, to write the rest.’ Because it’s like: what the hell happened?! Oh my God – it’s the most infuriating ending.”

Miller will return with a spinoff for ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ following the finale. The new show will be based on Atwood’s 2019 book, ‘The Testaments.’
