Elizabeth Hurley recently answered fan questions by readers of the Guardian and revealed what she doesn’t like about Daniel Craig’s ‘James Bond’ films.
“Well, I like a catsuit – which, in this day and age, would mean a Powers girl. But my dream is to be a Bond villain – with or without a catsuit,” the actress replied when asked whether she’d prefer to be a James Bond girl or an Austin Powers girl. “I loved the Daniel Craig Bond films, but all the villains were men.”
Hurley played Vanessa Kensington, Austin Powers’ girlfriend and later wife, in the first two Austin Powers movies. She had to turn down a role in the third movie because she was pregnant with her son Damian.
“When I was offered it, I said to them — and they were the first people who knew, aside from my immediate family — I said, ‘Guys, I’m pregnant.’ And I was pregnant with my son,” Hurley previously said of her absence from the third ‘Austin Powers’ film. “I said, ‘So, unless you shoot it literally next week, I don’t think I can shoot it.'”
She explained that her concerns were dismissed by executives, who told her, “‘Oh, you’ll be fine, you’re so skinny.'” But Hurley said, “I put on 63 lbs. when I was pregnant. I was like, ‘No, no, you don’t understand. You really have to shoot really soon.'”
By the time filming started, Hurley’s baby bump was visible, so she couldn’t do the film. The actress added, “So it wasn’t my fault [laughs]. It would be like Dr. Evil had impregnated me once I was away, so it couldn’t work!”
In the third movie, Beyoncé took Hurley’s place as Foxxy Cleopatra. Hurley recently appeared in the 2024 thriller ‘Strictly Confidential.’
