Emily Blunt Picks ‘Mary Poppins’ As Her Scariest Stunt: ‘I Was Going To Pee My Pants’

The actress opens up about her scary experience with height on set.

Emily Blunt shared the BTS of a ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ scene and how it scared her in a recent chat on ‘The Howard Stern Show.’ The actress needed to come down from the sky during the filming:

“I thought I was okay with heights until they started winching me up there, and they wanted to do it as a ‘oner,’ and by a ‘oner,’ I mean the whole thing is in one shot. You start way up high as small as a pin, and then I walk into my closeup once I land. That was the idea.”

She explained:

“And it sounded like a great shot. Rob Marshall marshalled me. I got seduced. I was like, ‘That’s an amazing shot.’ But they start with winching you up and you get like 20 feet and you’re like, ‘Woo, that’s quite high,’ and then you keep going up and suddenly you’re at like 65 feet in the air.”

Her words continued:

“It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s a lot. It’s f*cking scary. [Marshall] was playing music to get me in the zone, blaring it out of the speakers, this beautiful score. I thought I was going to pee my pants. I was so scared.”

The Actress Is Back For More Action

Emily Blunt now joins Ryan Gosling in ‘The Fall Guy’ for more stunt scenes. The action-comedy follows a stuntman (Gosling) trying to find a missing film star and win back his ex-girlfriend (Blunt).

Blunt’s co-star is not fond of heights for stunts, either. Gosling jumped from a 12-storey building at the film’s start and recently commented on it in a joint chat:

“I don’t love heights. [The beginning scene] took no skill at all on my end, I just got dropped. But that was kind of scary, it was a mental hurdle.”

The actor also mentioned Blunt’s fighting scenes and joked:

“Oh my God, she can turn anything into a deadly weapon, I’m glad you’ve removed the props. They don’t call her Stuntie Bluntie for no reason.”

The two compared their toughness in stunt scenes for a while, and then, the actress noted:

“I wouldn’t have done that fall you did at the beginning.”

‘The Fall Guy’ is set to release in the US and Canada on May 3.
