‘The Boys’ showrunner Eric Kripke recently shared bittersweet news with fans.
Kripke and his family lost their home to the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles, but ‘The Boys’ received a Writers Guild of America (WGA) nomination for Best Drama Series. In an Instagram post, Kripke described the nomination as ‘a little ray of sunshine in a stormy week’ and expressed pride in his team’s work.
Despite the tragedy, Kripke took time to celebrate the success of ‘The Boys.’ The WGA nomination recognizes the work of the show’s writing team, including Kripke, Geoff Aull, Jessica Chou, Paul Grellong, Ellie Monahan, and others. In another Instagram post, Kripke praised the crew for their contributions.
“A few recent noms that deserve proper cheers,” he wrote. “To the writers that make every word and story count. To the crew who makes every scene look the part. And to Christopher Lennertz who gets tunes stuck between our earholes forever. Bravo gang!”
Kripke’s home was completely destroyed in the wildfire. His family and pets were safely evacuated, but all of his belongings, including sentimental items, were lost. He shared that he regretted not taking more time to save things with personal meaning, like a photo of his father, journals he had written since he was 18, and childhood toys. Kripke advised others to prepare for emergencies by making a list of important items and taking them during evacuations.
The Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire has caused widespread destruction in Southern California. The two fires have killed at least 25 people, forced nearly 180,000 to evacuate, and damaged or destroyed over 12,000 buildings. Kripke thanked firefighters and first responders for their efforts and encouraged people to donate to help those affected.
The WGA Awards will take place on February 15, 2025, in New York and Los Angeles. The announcement of nominations was delayed by a week due to the wildfires. ‘The Boys’ will compete in the Drama Series category against ‘The Diplomat,’ ‘Fallout,’ ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith,’ and ‘Shōgun.’
