Evanna Lynch Doesn’t Agree With Miriam Margolyes Dismissing Adult Harry Potter Fans

Margolyes previously said the franchise was for children, but Lynch appreciates the adult interest in it.

Evanna Lynch discussed her involvement in Audible’s upcoming audiobook, ‘From the Wizarding Archive,’ in a recent interview with CNET.

“There’s a certain type of fan – young children who are utterly enchanted by Hogwarts and fully anticipate a letter – that is just an eternal presence in the Harry Potter fandom,” the Luna Lovegood actress shared when the outlet asked her how she thought the ‘Harry Potter’ fandom’s future would be. “No matter how old the rest of us get, there is always going to be a new generation of children discovering the stories for the first time.”

“As for the grown-up fans like myself, regressing to this safe place through life’s ups and downs, I don’t know… I just hope we can always use these stories to reconnect to our own inner child and be reminded of our innocence. There’s nothing more precious and disarming than remembering our innocence.”

Lynch’s views stood in contrast to those of Miriam Margolyes. The Professor Sprout actress commented to TVNZ’s 1News in March that adult fans should have moved on from ‘Harry Potter’ by now.

“I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now,” her controversial words read. “You know, it was 25 years ago, and it’s for children. I think it’s for children. But they get stuck in it. I do cameos, and people say, ‘I’m having a Harry Potter-themed wedding,’ and I think, ‘Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?’ I can’t even think about it. Harry Potter is wonderful; I’m very grateful for it. It’s over. That’s what I think.”

Some of the ‘Harry Potter’ cast members openly disagreed with Margolyes’ comments. Jessie Cave told the crowd at Dream It Con the same month that it was ‘such a shame that that happened.’

“You know how she is — she’s just a bit funny. And I think she didn’t mean for it to be taken like that, I hope. I really don’t like that she said that,” the Lavender Brown actress explained.

‘Harry Potter’ franchise returned for ‘Back to Hogwarts Day’ with ‘From the Wizarding Archive.’ The audiobook will see release on August 29 and feature 80 articles about untold details by J.K. Rowling. Finlay Robertson, Lara Sawalha, and Hugh Quarshie will be in the project along with Evanna Lynch.

Following ‘From the Wizarding Archive,’ Audible will release a re-recorded audio version of the original book series next year. It’s unclear who will voice the project.
