Even Disney Can’t Make Sense Marvel’s Name Changes For ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries’

Marvel Studios keeps changing the name of their Agatha Harkness show, and it causes confusion.

Marvel Studios has been changing the name of their Agatha Harkness series a lot, and it’s starting to confuse everyone — even people at Disney.

The show started with the title ‘Agatha: House of Harkness’ when it was first announced in July 2022. Then it changed to ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos.’ The name changed again in September 2023 to ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.’

Marvel Studios recently made another change and released a new title graphic, ‘Agatha: The Lying Witch With Great Wardrobe.’ They posted it on their official Marvel Studios account on X (formerly Twitter), but quickly deleted the post. Disney’s Chief Brand Officer, Asad Ayaz, tweeted the following in response:

“What?”

So, it seems he was just as confused as the fans. The new name is a funny play on the book title ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,’ so some think they’re just trolling the fans. Marvel hasn’t officially said if this is the final name or just a joke.

Fans Think This May Be A Marketing Strategy

These frequent name changes made some fans think it might be part of a clever marketing strategy. The confusion and constant changes certainly got people talking, so it’s possible.

Kathryn Hahn will be back as Agatha Harkness in this ‘WandaVision’ spinoff. The show will also feature Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Emma Caulfield Ford, Debra Jo Rupp, David Payton, David Lengel, Asif Ali, Amos Glick, Brian Brightman, Kate Forbes, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, and Maria Dizzia.

There are even rumors that Sacha Baron Cohen may appear as the character Mephisto. Jac Schaeffer, who worked on ‘WandaVision,’ is the showrunner for this series too.

‘Agatha’ picks up after the events of WandaVision, where the Scarlet Witch trapped Agatha in Westview and took away her magic. Hahn recently described the show as ‘fabulous.’ The show did some reshoots earlier this year and is set to be released on Disney+ by late 2024.
