Ewan McGregor Confirms Lucasfilm Is Exploring Ideas For OBI-WAN KENOBI Season 2

The highly-praised series may finally be getting a second season.

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ aired as a six-episode series in 2022 and earned praise for its story and acting. The first season stood out especially by filling in gaps between ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘A New Hope.’

While many viewers hoped for a second season that maybe could bring back Obi-Wan’s rivalry with Maul, Lucasfilm previously said there were no plans for another installment. But Ewan McGregor’s recent comments suggested the opposite.

According to SFFGazette.com, McGregor mentioned during the recent L.A. Comic-Con’s that the studio was “exploring” ideas for more ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi.’ He also shared his interest in wearing the character’s Clone Wars armor and reuniting with Hayden Christensen.

The ‘Big Fish’ actor played a younger version of the Jedi Master in the Disney+ series. The ‘Star Wars’ character made his debut in the original trilogy, played by Alec Guinness.

“I loved, more than anything, getting to know Alec Guinness’ work because I was playing him as a young man,” McGregor told Variety last month. “Even now with the series, that’s my personal challenge—if a take feels a bit like him, I’m happy.”

“I really do hope we get a chance to do another one. Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there,” he added.

Disney and Lucasfilm have released several ‘Star Wars’ spinoff shows in recent years. The most recent of these, Leslye Headland’s ‘The Acolyte,’ got canceled shortly after its first season due to heavy criticism and low ratings.

Now, the studios’ focus is shifting back to big screen, which means a ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2 could possibly arrive as a movie if it happens.
