‘Fallout’ game creator Tim Cain is okay with the changes in the TV adaptation.
Prime Video turned ‘Fallout’ into a TV show, and it’s getting a lot of good feedback from viewers. Some details in the show don’t match up exactly with the games, though. Cain recently explained that some changes are bound to happen, and it’s called ‘lore drift’:
“Everything feels like ‘Fallout.’ It feels like ‘Fallout.’ That is hard to do, trust me. I know how hard that is to do. It’s easy to write post-apocalyptic stuff that doesn’t fit in the Fallout mold, and it would have been very easy for them to go off to be too silly accidentally, to have things that are like, ‘that’s not part of Fallout.’ But they didn’t. Let me just remind you that lore drift is inevitable in big IPs.”
He also argued that this isn’t unusual, and Marvel and Star Wars also changed details over time.
Cain Has Reasons For The Changes
Episode 6 shows an event called ‘The Fall of Shady Sands’ happening in 2277. This is different from the timeline in ‘Fallout: New Vegas.’ Shady Sands is doing pretty well in the game.
Cain responded to fan concerns and suggested that maybe the show is exploring other points of view:
“Let’s talk about Shady Sands being nuked because I see a lot of people talking about that. I know people are complaining about the dates being off. Well, you’re right! Maybe they are off! Maybe what was taught to the kids was wrong. Maybe they were lying to the kids. They lied to the kids in Vault 33 about other things, why not lie about that? Or, maybe they’re off, but they don’t know they’re off? Just a few years either way.”
Cain also hints that ‘Fallout’s second season may respond to fan concerns.
