‘Fallout’s Aaron Moten Shares His Painful Training Behind Action Scenes

The stunts were a challenge for Moten and his co-stars.

Bethesda Softworks’ ‘Fallout’ game series made its way to TV through Amazon Prime Video. Lead actors Aaron Moten and Ella Purnell talked about filming the post-apocalyptic drama with ComicBook.com.

The eight-episode first season was action-packed and took a toll on the show’s stars. Moten explained:

“There were days I couldn’t really walk straight. Like waking up in the morning you’re sore – you’re sore everywhere, you know? And that’s a credit to our amazing stunt team as well, for preparing us for these moments and giving us as many rehearsals as we needed to really nail things down.”

He also mentioned the difference between working with a stunt performer and a regular actor:

“I know for myself I love working with other stunt performers – especially with action. Because with other actors I think we have to be more nervous with each other? But stunt performers are so good at their jobs and I can say to them ‘Give me a little contact here, because I know you’re not going to hurt me.’ If I said that with an actor I think we’d really get punched. Ella would actually drop-kick me in the face [laughs]. I’d be like ‘Wait a minute… I just wanted a little shove!’”

They Played Video Games To Get Ready For Their Parts

Amazon bought the rights to a live-action adaptation of ‘Fallout’ in 2020 and announced the show in July of that year. Aaron Moten joined the cast as Maximus opposite Ella Purnell’s Lucy MacLean.

Purnell spoke of appearing in a video game adaptation earlier this week with Screen Rant:

“They told me, us maybe, that we didn’t have to play the games, but we could if we wanted to. I did want to play them, because I really wanted to get everything I could out of this moment. I wanted to, obviously, do justice to the source material. But I also knew my character was original.”

Moten also shared how he got ready for the role by saying:

“I got to hop on Twitch and YouTube just to watch the players who had hours invested into it, but also to see the world and to see what certain environments would look like. Of course, with this amazing design team of our sets, Howard Cummings and his crew, every day was amazing for us. It was all so detailed and vast. I mean, what a rich experience for an actor to get a true-to-that-game playground to explore on.”

‘Fallout’ came out on April 10 to positive reviews from critics. Amazon will reportedly submit the show from Jonathan Nolan for 28 categories at this year’s Emmys.
