‘Fallout’s Ella Purnell: ‘I Have No Idea How I Became A Famous Actress’

Purnell admitted that acting wasn’t part of her original plans.

Ella Purnell starred in two gore-loaded hit shows, ‘Fallout’ and ‘Yellowjackets,’ in the last few years of her career but is not sure how she got there. She recently revealed to The Guardian that she’s not even a fan of violent entertainment.

“I can’t do horror films,” the actress noted. “I don’t really love watching too much gore, or any supernatural things. I’m not even really a big sci-fi person. And I’m not a gamer. So, I don’t know how any of this has happened!”

She also shared her confusion about being successful in acting to begin with: “[I] never really planned on becoming an actor. I feel a lot of guilt and impostor syndrome attached to that statement, because I know a lot of people have wanted to be an actor ever since they were kids. And that just wasn’t me.”

According to the interview, Purnell originally wanted to go to university and become a children’s book writer. But instead, she ended up appearing in major projects including ‘Never Let Me Go,’ ‘Maleficent,’ ‘The Legend of Tarzan,’ ‘Kick-Ass 2,’ and ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.’

Her latest project, Prime Video’s ‘Fallout,’ premiered in April. The series was created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, based on Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky’s popular role-playing video game franchise of the same name.

The show followed Purnell’s Lucy MacLean in a post-apocalyptic world. She starred alongside Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Walton Goggins.
