The New York Post recently reported that a man walked up and hit Steve Buscemi while he was walking in the Kips Bay neighborhood on Manhattan’s East Side last week.
The actor’s publicist said in a statement:
“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city. He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of New York.”
Buscemi suffered a swollen left eye and face and was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment after the attack.
Buscemi Is Not The First Victim
The assault took place around 11:48 a.m. on Wednesday in front of 369 Third Ave. The attacker fled the scene and is currently being sought by authorities.
This incident added to a series of attacks on celebrities in New York City in recent years. Comic actor Rick Moranis, reality star Bethenny Frankel, and Buscemi’s ‘Boardwalk Empire’ co-star Michael Stuhlbarg are some of the victims.
A man named Xavier Israel hit Stuhlbarg in the back of the neck on the Upper East Side last March. The NYPD arrested the homeless man who had criminal records for assault and robbery.
