Well-known TV presenter Fearne Cotton updated her Instagram feed with an inspiring post to highlighted the healing effect of stepping back from social media and communication apps.
Cotton, who is the first regular female presenter of the Radio 1 Chart Show, posted a photo of nature and added a lengthy caption to express that “we have much more agency over what we let in than we think we do.” In her message, ‘The Xtra Factor‘ host stated that there is no obligation to answer every text on the same day and recalled that people did not have mobile phones 20 years ago.
Stating that there is no correlation between friendship and technological communication mediums, Cotton continued:
“We don’t have to get back to every work email within the hour. The world won’t end if we take a little more time. We don’t have to watch every bit of news or keep abreast of every breaking story. It doesn’t make you a ‘bad’ person for switching off.”
Cotton, who is familiar with sharing inspiring posts to express low-key lives are better, highlighted that looking on social media does not mean connecting to others:
“It is perfectly fine, actually better than that, it’s wonderful to step back when we feel like it’s all too much. True friends won’t mind if you take days, even weeks to text back.”
