First Trailer For ’28 Years Later’ Just Dropped, And It’s Absolutely Bone-Chilling

The long-awaited zombie sequel by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland looks worth it.

’28 Years Later’ trailer is here, and it’s scary as hell.

The trailer, with the eerie sound of a Taylor Holmes recording of Rudyard Kipling’s poem, shows a post-apocalyptic world. Aaron Taylor-Johnson walks through England’s green fields with a bow and arrow.

Nearly 20 years after ’28 Days Later,’ the sequel shows Cillian Murphy’s Jim as a zombie, towering over Jodie Comer’s character, after being infected with the ‘Rage Virus.’

Murphy’s name isn’t on the posters, so he’s probably not a big part of the sequel, though he is an executive producer. He wasn’t in ’28 Weeks Later’ either.

The film’s official synopsis read, “It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected.”

It continued, “One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”

The tagline for the movie is ‘Time didn’t heal anything.’ It releases on June 20, 2025, and is the first part of a ’28 Years Later’ trilogy. New cast members include Taylor-Johnson, Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Erin Kellyman, and Jack O’Connell.

“Britain is 28 years into this terrible plague of infected people who are violent, rabid humans with a few pockets of uninfected communities,” Fiennes previously said about the plot. “And it centers on a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English terrain. But of course, around them hiding in forests and hills and woods are the infected.”

Andrew MacDonald and Peter Rice are producers, along with Garland and Boyle. ’28 Years Later’ is produced by Columbia Pictures, BFI, DNA Films, and Decibel Films.
