Flash’s Grant Gustin Finally Gets A Green Light From James Gunn For DCU Comeback

The DC co-CEO has shown interest in bringing Grant Gustin back into the fold.

During a chat on Threads, a fan suggested to James Gunn that Grant Gustin should be considered for a role in one of the new DC projects. The fan praised Gustin’s acting skills and expressed concern that his talent was ‘going to waste.’

Gunn’s reply to the user opened the door to the possibility of a collaboration:

“Grant is an incredibly talented guy, performing now on Broadway, I believe, and is absolutely not going to waste just because he’s not currently in a DC project. But, of course, I’d love to work with him at some point.”

Gustin first appeared as Barry Allen, aka The Flash, in a guest spot on ‘Arrow,’ and soon after, starred in his own series that lasted for nine seasons until 2023. During this time, Ezra Miller played the Flash in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films.

The Actor Is Open For A Comeback

After both actors ended their runs, Gunn and Peter Safran, who are steering the new direction of the DC Universe, announced they would be introducing new actors for their upcoming projects. Still, Gustin has shown he’s open to returning to his role, with one specific condition.

In a recent Instagram post, he shared:

“Yeah, if James Gunn asked me to play The Flash, I would do it. I trust James Gunn.”

The rebooted DC Universe is set to begin in 2024 with the ‘Creature Commandos’ animated series, followed by a ‘Superman’ movie set for release on July 11, 2025.

Although there’s no news of a project centered around the Flash at the moment, the upcoming slate of DCU films includes titles such as ‘The Brave And The Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow,’ ‘Swamp Thing,’ and ‘The Authority.’
