At a recent ‘Oppenheimer’ panel, which included stars Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh shared a surprising story from the set. She talked about an issue with the camera that occurred during a sex scene with Murphy:
“In the middle of our sex scene, the camera broke. No one knows this, but it did. Our camera broke when we were both naked, and it was not ideal timing.”
Pugh mentioned they had no spare cameras at the time, as one was already out for repair. They had to solve the problem with the one at hand while:
“Cillian and I are in this room together. It’s a closed set, so we’re both holding our bodies like this. [Wrapping her arms around herself]”
It Was A Learning Opportunity For Her
When a crew member came in to fix the camera, Pugh took the chance to ask questions and learn more about what went wrong with the equipment.
The ‘Oppenheimer’ director, Christopher Nolan, became the one to point out the issue by saying it was how the light was coming in. Commenting on this, the actress shared:
“It was just crazy that every person on this set was so knowledgeable and was so ready to make this kind of a movie that there was no dull moment. It was all amazing. It felt like we were lucky to be there every second of the day.”
Pugh Was Warned About Her Part In The Film
In the film, Florence Pugh played Jean Tatlock, who had an affair with Cillian Murphy’s J. Robert Oppenheimer while still married to Emily Blunt’s Kitty Oppenheimer. Nolan warned Pugh about the size of the character when he offered the role to her.
In a previous chat with MTV UK, the actress explained:
“I didn’t really know what was going on or what it was that was being made. Except I knew that Chris really, really wanted me to know that it wasn’t a very big role, and he understands if I don’t want to come near it. And I was like, ‘Doesn’t matter. Even if I’m a coffee maker at a café in the back of the room, let’s do it.’”
‘Oppenheimer’ has garnered attention this awards season, earning 13 nominations at the 2024 Academy Awards.
