Netflix’s ‘After Life‘ became the most-watched British-made comedy in the world on its second season.
Actually, the black comedy-drama web television series was marked as the most-watched British comedy feature last year for its first season, according to comedian Ricky Gervais, who is currently portraying widower ‘Tony’ in the show, the series reached the top one more time with its news season, premiered on 24 April through Netflix.
Gervais, who is also creator, screenwriter, producer, and director for the series, released the exciting news by posting a photo of ‘Tony’ with his dog, that sees him lying on the beach. Alongside the photo, the comedian wrote:
“Thank you for making #AfterLife the most-watched British comedy in the world for the second year running 🥂”
Then Gervais released another photo of himself working with the crew on the set and celebrated the impressive milestone that the series reached without press ads, billboards and campaigns. In the caption section, the star expressed that achievement is better than any nominations and awards. In his own words:
“I have no Emmy campaign for #AfterLife. I didn’t have any of those things for the launch either, but fans of the show came through for me as usual and made it the most-watched British comedy in the world. And that’s better than any award.”
The creator did not forget the loyal fans and viewers of the series and thanked them. Pointing to the fans who shared with him their own stories of grief and loss, Gervais encouraged them to stay strong. As known, ‘After Life’ is following a middle-aged man, ‘Tony,’ who lost his wife from breast cancer and experiences a serious depression that leads him to contemplate suicide.
The series, which garnered high praises, will be renewed for a third season, within a new multi-project deal between Netflix and Ricky Gervais.
