Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ director Ryan Coogler is set to release a vampire movie this year, but it’s not ‘Blade.’ Scheduled to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, Coogler will reunite with ‘Black Panther’ star Michael B. Jordan for ‘Sinners.’ The film marks Coogler’s first project since 2022’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’
Written and directed by Coogler, ‘Sinners’ stars Jordan in a dual role as brothers Elijah and Elias. Set in the 1930s South, the movie is described as follows:
“Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.”
While Warner Bros.’ official statement doesn’t explicitly confirm that the “greater evil” refers to vampires, early reports from last April, when production began, indicated that the film would indeed be a vampire story.
Joining Jordan in the film’s cast are Delroy Lindo, Jack O’Connell, Omar Benson Miller, Jayme Lawson, Li Jun Li, Lola Kirke, and fellow Marvel stars Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku.
Meanwhile, ‘Blade’ is noticeably absent from Disney’s 2025 release schedule. The film was removed in October, with its original release date—November 7, 2025—reallocated to ‘Predator: Badlands’. Announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, ‘Blade’ was set to star Mahershala Ali. However, progress has been slow, hampered by multiple setbacks, including the 2023 Hollywood strikes and the loss of at least one director. With its future increasingly uncertain, it’s unclear whether ‘Blade’ will move forward at all.
‘Sinners’ is set to open in theaters on April 18, 2025.
