‘Game of Thrones’ actor Kit Harington recently told Screen Rant that the Jon Snow spinoff is put on the shelves.
Harington said he didn’t talk about the spinoff much before because it was still being worked on. He didn’t want to get fans’ hopes up or have them dislike the idea before they even decided if it was going to happen:
“I hadn’t really ever spoken about it because it was in development. I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hate the idea of it when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it.”
Kit explained that finding the perfect story for the show was really tough, and they couldn’t find one that everyone was excited about. So, they’ve decided to stop working on it for now:
“Currently, it’s not [worth it]. It’s off the table because we couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future when we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”
It seems there’s still a little hope, though.
It’s Been Two Years Since The First Announcement
‘Game of Thrones’ creators shared the news about ‘Snow’ in June 2022. A few months ago, HBO’s CEO Casey Bloys said that the show wasn’t officially approved yet. He added that another show called ‘Dunk and Egg’ is definitely happening.
All the other ‘Game of Thrones’ are about events that happened long before the original series. ‘House of the Dragon’ tells stories from almost 200 years before, and the new ‘Dunk and Egg’ series will be set about 100 years before ‘Game of Thrones.’
Kit Harington shared that part of the reason they decided not to move forward with the Jon Snow spinoff is similar to problems they had in the last seasons of ‘Game of Thrones’ — there’s no book to follow.
‘Dunk and Egg’ will start filming later this year. ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ are also available to watch on Max.
Harington is promoting his new movie, ‘Blood for Dust.’ It will be out in theaters and digital on April 19, 2024.
