Geena Davis And Alec Baldwin Won’t Be In Beetlejuice 2 Because ‘They Got Old’

‘Ghosts don’t age,’ says the actress.

Geena Davis recently received the Viola Davis Trailblazer Award at CinemaCon 2024. She also talked to ET’s Kevin Frazier about the upcoming ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel during the event.

The 68-year-old explained why she won’t return to her role in the franchise:

“No, I’m not. I’m not in the remake. Oh, you were expecting that I would be? Yeah, no, you know what? Because my theory is that ghosts don’t age… Not that I have.”

It’s Been 35 Years

Davis and Alec Baldwin played Barbara and Adam Maitland in the first film. They were the ghosts living in the Deetz family home. The actress shared:

“Our characters were stuck the way they looked when they died forever, so it’s been a while, it’s been a minute.”

The Maitlands and the Deetzs decide to live together peacefully in the end of the 1988 original. So, it’s now unclear how the upcoming sequel will explain their absence.

The Trailer Is Out

Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara will reprise their roles as Lydia, Beetlejuice, and Delia in ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ unlike Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin.

The upcoming movie’s trailer came out in mid-March. Davis didn’t get to see it at the time of her red carpet interview. She told ET:

“I heard the trailer came out and somebody said they were crying, so I have to see the trailer.”

‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ is coming out on September 5, 2024.
