George R.R. Martin recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about a new spinoff, just a week after he criticized ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 for drifting away from the source material. This time, however, his comments were full of praise.
“I visited the set in Northern Ireland in July and loved what I saw,” the writer said of the upcoming ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.’ “Great cast. [The lead characters] Dunk and Egg look as if they walked out of the pages of my book. My readers are going to love them. I certainly do. [Showrunner Ira Parker] is doing a great job.”
The new prequel series will be based on Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ novella trilogy, set nearly a century before ‘Game of Thrones.’ It will star Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon ‘Egg’ Targaryen.
The six-episode series will focus on Ser Duncan tutoring Egg as his squire while traveling the Seven Kingdoms under the orders of Prince Maekar Targaryen (Sam Spruell).
The cast will also include Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion ‘Brightflame’ Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor ‘Breakspear’ Targaryen, and Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon. Martin will produce the series alongside Ira Parker, Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw.
Season 1 will premiere on HBO and Max in 2025.
