Marvel Studios is making big moves to get Hugh Jackman nominated for an Oscar after his performance in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’
According to Variety‘s reports, the studio is pushing hard to get him into the Best Supporting Actor category at the 2025 Academy Awards. Disney is leading the campaign, and they have plenty of experience running successful Oscar campaigns. They are also targeting other major awards like the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and Critics Choice Awards.
Hugh Jackman is no stranger to awards season. He’s been nominated for four Golden Globes and won one for his role in ‘Les Misérables.’ He was also nominated for an Oscar for the same film. Marvel is now hoping to bring Jackman back into the Oscar spotlight with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’
Jackman plays a version of Wolverine who is broken and haunted by his past failures in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ The story focuses on Wolverine teaming up with Deadpool for a heroic mission. Marvel is aiming for both technical Oscar categories like production design and visual effects, but their focus on a major acting category for Jackman is getting a lot of attention.
Marvel tried for a major acting Oscar before, most recently with Angela Bassett. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ If Jackman wins, it’d be a big moment not just for him but for Marvel and the entire X-Men franchise.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is set to release digitally on Prime Video and Apple TV+ on October 1st, and it will be available on 4K Blu-ray and DVD starting October 22nd.
