Paul Mescal spoke about the audience’s parasocial attitudes towards him. “I think audiences sometimes misinterpret the characters I play by comparing them to who I am,” he said during a Hot Ones interview. “It’s just a weird thing because ultimately I don’t know you, you don’t know me, but we know a lot about each other because we’re visible the whole time.”
Mescal, whose leading role in the series ‘Normal People’ catapulted him into the limelight alongside screen partner Daisy Edgar-Jones, stated that he is unwilling to bend to public pressure or expectations when it comes to his film career.
“I mean this with the greatest sincerity and kindness, but I don’t really care what people want me to do because I think the minute you start catering to an audience you’re ultimately beginning to do them a disservice,” he explained.
The talented actor recently stated that he doesn’t need Russell Crowe’s advice regarding his upcoming role in ‘Gladiator 2’. In a new interview with Extra, Mescal said, “You know what, I didn’t think about that bit until now. When I read the script I was like, ‘Oh, Lucius is a different entity,’” the actor said. “I think what I would love to discuss with Russell is the trade war stories having completed things that are…we’ve gone through similar experiences with it.”
Mescal gained recognition for his performance in ‘Normal People’. He was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor in 2023 for his role as Calum in the movie ‘Aftersun.’
