Instead of a full third season, ‘Good Omens’ will now wrap up with a single 90-minute episode, according to Deadline. Neil Gaiman will not be involved in the finale following the sexual assault allegations directed at him in recent months.
Gaiman helped write the series finale but won’t take part in its production. His company, the Blank Corporation, has also stepped away from the project. The production team plans to hire a new writer to finish the episode, though this contract hasn’t been finalized yet.
The decision came after Tortoise Media released a podcast featuring two women who claimed Gaiman sexually assaulted them during consensual relationships. Since the podcast, two more women came forward, though the writer denied all accusations.
Unlike Gaiman, Michael Sheen and David Tennant will return to play Aziraphale and Crowley in the final episode. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2025 in Scotland, delayed due to the allegations.
Sheen is already ‘excited’ about what’s to come, as he previously commented on the series finale in an interview with TV Insider, saying, “Seeing how people reacted to the end of Season 2 was extraordinary. So yeah, I hope, and I’m sure, that Season 3 will be a satisfying experience for everyone.”
The upcoming episode is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions, and Narrativia. Rob Wilkins from Narrativia and Josh Cole from BBC Studios Productions’ comedy section will executive produce it.
