American actress, businesswoman, and author Gwyneth Paltrow, who is familiar with raise awareness on social issues through her social media channels, became one of those who stand against Facebook to stop spread hate speech and misinformation to the public.
As known, after Facebook had declined to blue-pencil the hate speech that leads to an increase in racism and radicalization, many brands decided to temporarily stop advertising, and a non-profit organization named ‘Stop Hate For Profit’ has been established.
In order to support this organization, the Academy Award-winning actress stated that she would freeze her Instagram and Facebook accounts for 1 day. She wrote on Instagram:
“Being able to connect with my fans over Instagram is a wonderful thing. However, Facebook, its parent company, is regularly involved in spreading hate, misinformation, and divisiveness in an effort to maximize profit in spite of its harm to our democracy.”
‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ star continued:
“I am not a very frequent poster, but you can be sure that I will join my influential and great friends @sachabaroncohen @cp3 @katehudson @scooterbraun @kimkardashian @katyperry @orlandobloom @aplusk @leonardodicaprio @markruffalo @islafisher @ddlovato @j_corden @dwyanewade in refraining from engaging in Instagram and Facebook tomorrow.”
Then the Golden Globe Award winner concluded her words as follows:
“Real freedom in the digital age should respect life, liberty, and the American way which, in my opinion, means adherence to truth and morality. @naacp @adl_national @colorofchange #stopthehateforprofit”
Following the post, a good number of notable names, including Orlando Bloom, Demi Lovato, and Kate Hudson jumped into the comment section to show their support for her.
