Halle Bailey secured the 62nd spot on TC Candler’s list of the 100 most beautiful faces in 2023, ranking above Margot Robbie who was placed at number 90.
The rankings sparked reactions, particularly from fans of Robbie, who voiced their disappointment on social media. They suggested (via All Chronology) that the decision to rank Bailey higher might have been influenced by a push for more inclusivity. This sentiment was similar to the public’s response to the Black actress’ casting in ‘The Little Mermaid.’
As 2024 came to a close, TC Candler released their updated beauty list, which saw Robbie falling to 95th place and Bailey not featured at all. Despite these changes, the list maintained a diverse profile, especially highlighting Asian celebrities.
Recognized for its celebration of diversity, beauty, fame, and cultural impact, TC Candler’s explains its focus, “Unlike most other annual beauty rankings, The List is not a popularity contest and is most definitely not country-specific. It is not about the sexiest body or the most famous celebrity. Rather, the list attempts to inform & broaden public opinion instead of reflecting it.”
That said, the list’s formation relies heavily on public engagement. Fans play a role by nominating and promoting their favorite celebrities on social media though their votes don’t directly affect the results.
