The Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry, as might be remembered, had revealed during Instagram Live interview on July 4 that she would portray a transgender man.
However, Berry got much negative feedback regarding this news. Plenty of people, especially the LGBTQ+ activists, defended that while there are many trans male actors, this role is not for her.
Whereupon, the ‘Introducing Dorothy Dandridge’ star took to her personal Twitter on July 7 and stated that she is not going to take the mentioned role.
She made a written statement, and announced:
“Over the weekend I had the opportunity to discuss my consideration of an upcoming role as a transgender man and I’d like to apologize for those remarks. As a cisgender woman, I now understand that I should not have considered this role and that the transgender community should undeniably have the opportunity to tell their own stories.”
The 53-year-old actress described her consideration about the role as a mistake and apologized:
“I am grateful for the guidance and critical conversation over the past few days and I will continue to listen, educate, and learn from this mistake.”
