Jimmy Fallon questioned Halle Berry about her memories from 2004’s ‘Catwoman’ during her recent appearance on ‘The Tonight Show.’
“I loved it,” Berry shared. “I mean, it got panned. You know, the critics said it sucked… But what I’m happy about is the children have found it now on the internet, and the kids love it. So, it’s so vindicating, right? Because now they’re saying it’s cool, and, like, ‘What the heck was everybody’s problem with it?’ So, I’m like, ‘I’m so grateful now.’”
Despite its initial flop 20 years ago with an 8% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, IndieWire labeled the film as a ‘superhero cult classic’ that ‘has become a sleeper hit’ in July.
Fallon then asked Berry if she would consider reprising her role as Catwoman, given the film’s regrowing popularity. “Maybe if I could direct it,” she said laughing.
The Jean-Christophe ‘Pitof’ Comar-directed movie received criticism for its storyline and departure from the source material. Halle Berry’s revealing Catwoman costume was notably controversial though the actress defended it last month by saying, “Why keep remaking ‘Catwoman’ if you’re not going to take risks and bring something different to it? The beauty was that it was better suited for my version of her, my body, who I was, and my sensibilities.”
Following her statement about the costume choice, Berry posted topless photos of herself on Instagram to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Catwoman.’ Two black cats covered her chest with her wearing black bikini bottoms and a Catwoman-like mask.
“And STILL… meow! It’s been 20 years today since I had the honor of bringing this iconic character to life,” her caption read. “She will always be close to my heart and I will forever be Patience Phillips aka CATWOMAN! Thank you, Jee H. Lim. When these black beauties showed up in my yard searching for their mother, Jee helped us through the rescue process. Forever grateful!”
The cats in Berry’s Instagram post were the same ones she rescued in June.
