Hannah Waddingham Recalls A Set Accident That Went Horribly Wrong

Waddingham was set on fire due to a malfunctioning pyrotechnic.

Hannah Waddingham shares a scary experience she had on set — something went wrong, and she ended up on fire!

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Waddingham said a special fire effect malfunctioned and hit her instead of the prop. Her costume was covered in feathers, and this set her on fire:

“In the theatre, I was set on fire by mistake. On my wires, in ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ I was on my broomstick, playing the Wicked Witch of the West, as you do. And I had a feathery costume, and I has a finger flash to set fire to the Scarecrow, as you do, and it went off late, deviated, and set fire to my feathers … So it can go wrong, like that.”

Waddingham was suspended on wires at the time of the accident, but she wasn’t seriously hurt.

She Will Appear in Gosling’s ‘The Fall Guy’

Waddingham is part of Ryan Gosling’s new film ‘The Fall Guy.’

Gosling and Emily Blunt recently criticized how movies are chosen and made in Hollywood. They said algorithms are now often choosing which movies get made, but they can be mistaken. Both Gosling and Blunt said they prefer more personal stories — like ‘The Fall Guy.’

‘The Fall Guy’ will be in theaters on May 3, 2024.
