In a new interview with Screen Rant, ‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’s showrunner Tasha Huo explained why Hayley Atwell is the perfect choice to voice Lara Croft.
“I’m so glad to say that, because I think she is Lara in her real, waking life,” Huo said when asked what makes Atwell so good as Lara Croft.
She added, “It’s funny, because she was filming for ‘Mission Impossible’ at the same time she was recording for us, and so it was a lot of, ‘Oh, I did that stunt last week, so I know exactly what that sounds like.’
“She, herself, is a natural adventurer, while also being just an incredible dramatic actress,” Huo further praised Atwell. “So she is the perfect encapsulation of Lara during this sort of bridge period of time.”
Lara Croft is back in the new Netflix animated series, ‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.’ Atwell voices Lara in a new adventure. The show continues after the ‘Tomb Raider’ video games ‘Survivor’ trilogy and follows Lara’s next journey into ancient mysteries.
“Following the events of the ‘Survivor’ series, Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures,” the show’s official description said. “But she must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection.”
It continued, “Her daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and to the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self, and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become.”
Besides Atwell, Allen Maldonado is Zip, and Earl Baylon returns as Jonah from the ‘Tomb Raider’ games in the animated show. The first ‘Tomb Raider’ game came out in 1996 for the Sega Saturn and sold over 2.5 million copies by 1997. By 2024, 20 ‘Tomb Raider’ games have been released.
