TheWrap recently reported that the ‘Highlander’ reboot is delayed due to production setbacks with Chad Stahelski’s ‘Ballerina.’ Reshoots for ‘Ballerina’ extended for two to three months, resulting in a minimum five-month delay for ‘Highlander,’ an insider told the outlet.
Lionsgate announced that Henry Cavill would lead the ‘Highlander’ reboot as MacLeod, with an investment of over $100 million, back in October 2023. Mike Finch joined the project as screenwriter.
Early statements confirmed filming would start in January 2024, with Stahelski directing and also producing alongside Joshua Davis, Louise Rosner, and Neal H. Moritz. But the changed ‘Ballerina’ schedule has now left the start date for ‘Highlander’ uncertain.
The original ‘Highlander’ movie, released in 1986 with Christopher Lambert in the lead, revolved around a Scottish swordsman who had to face his last immortal enemy in a dark fantasy setup. That version’s cast also featured Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, Roxanne Hart, and Beatie Edney.
Russell Mulcahey directed the first two installments of the trilogy but left his place to Andy Morahan for the third one. The series returned in 2000 with a rough reboot featuring Adrian Paul as MacLeod.
