As ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ began development, fans were casting Tom Glynn-Carney as a popular choice for a role. People on social media compared him to Woody Harrelson’s character, Haymitch Abernathy. The actor was surprised but felt honored and excited about the possibility of playing the part.
He told Vestal Magazine:
“No way, that’s the first I’ve heard of it! But I’m incredibly flattered that people would like to see me on screen again. If all goes well, I’ll fight for my life in the ‘Hunger Games’!”
Details About The ‘Sunrise On The Reaping’
A new novel by Suzanne Collins will be released in 2025, and the movie is expected in 2026. Collins stated when announcing the book:
“With ‘Sunrise on the Reaping,’ I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.’ The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”
For ‘Sunrise on the Reaping,’ the creative team faces a new challenge with casting. The 50th Hunger Games is a Quater Quell, which means it has a unique twist. In this case, each District has to send four tributes instead of the usual two, increasing the total to 48. This means there will be many more fighters, many of whom haven’t been mentioned in earlier books.
In earlier novels, there were hints about Haymitch’s games, but only five tributes were mentioned. One was from District 1 and joined a ten-man group, while another was a child from the poor Seam area of District 12 who died early.
The only other notable tribute was Maysilee Donner, whose parents owned a sweet shop and who was an ally of Haymitch. This means there’s a lot of space for new characters in the upcoming ‘Hunger Games’ novel and movie. ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ will add more details, but not much is known beyond how Maysilee and the other tributes affected Haymitch.
