First look at Hiccup in the live-action remake of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, has been revealed by Empire.

There was a leak on Twitter, it was quickly removed for copyright reasons. The person who gave the leak announced that the trailer will be released soon.

The beloved friendship between the Viking Hiccup and his faithful dragon Toothless is central to the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ franchise, which spans three animated films. Now, the story transitions to live action, with Mason Thames (Black Phone) portraying Hiccup.

Speaking about the raised stakes in the live-action adaptation, director Dean DeBlois said, “It’s so dialed-up in terms of stakes — having a fully credible, photo-real dragon stomping around trying to kill him.” DeBlois also highlighted Hiccup’s relatability, saying, “Hiccup represents all of the oddballs out there, and there are many of us.” Commenting on Mason Thames’ portrayal, he added, “There was a bit of awkwardness, but also a vulnerability to him, which [came] with the fact that he was 15 when we were auditioning him.”

Filmmaker Dean DeBlois is directing the live-action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, and as a veteran of the franchise, he has directed the previous three installments, with Chris Sanders joining him on the first movie in 2010.

Joining Thames in ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ are Nico Parker as Astrid, Gerard Butler reprising his voice role of Stoick the Vast from the animated movies, Nick Frost as Gobber the Blech, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut, and Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut.

The live-action ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ arrives in theaters in June 13, 2025.
