Ian Somerhalder revealed why he stepped away from acting after ‘The Vampire Diaries’ ended in 2017.
After ‘The Vampire Diaries’ brought him fame and several awards, Somerhalder only took on one more major role in the Netflix series ‘V Wars.’ It premiered in 2019. Somerhalder decided to retire from acting when the show was canceled.
In a recent interview with People, Somerhalder shared that it has now been five years since his last acting role. “I stepped away from that after ‘V Wars’ to build these companies, launch films like ‘Kiss the Ground,’ ‘Common Ground,’ and ‘Ground Swell,’ and raise my kids, he explained.”
Somerhalder explained that he had a conversation with his management at the time and decided to walk away from the industry while his career was still strong. Instead of chasing new roles, he wanted to work on projects related to farming, food, and energy. It seems he sees them as more important to him now.
He is also working with the Greater Ground initiative, which helps farmers create sustainable food sources for both pets and people.
Somerhalder admitted that acting brought him success, but he now prefers spending time with his family rather than traveling to different cities to shoot TV shows. He said his focus has shifted to bigger issues like the future of farming and energy, and he finds it more rewarding than being in front of the camera.
You can still watch ‘The Vampire Diaries’ on Max and Peacock.
