‘Invincible’ Creator Robert Kirkman Explains Why Live-Action Movie Will Take So Long To Make

Robert Kirkman shares a new update on the ‘Invincible’ live-action movie.

In a roundtable chat with The Direct at San Diego Comic-Con, Robert Kirkman shared why the ‘Invincible’ live-action movie will take a while to complete.

“It’s still in development. We’re still working with Universal,” the director revealed. “You know, the show is going so well. I think the movie absolutely has to be perfect. And so it’s taking a lot of time, like getting the pieces aligned and getting everything to work so that we can come out and make it as good as it can possibly be.”

Kirkman added, “So it’s been in development for a long time, and it’s probably going to be in development for a while longer.”

The live-action film was first announced in 2017, four years before the animated series aired. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were set to write and direct the film, but not much information was given.

Since then, updates have been few, with only occasional confirmations from creator Kirkman that the project is still ongoing. Kirkman also mentioned that the movie needs to be as good as, or even better than, the show to attract people to theaters.

Kirkman’s comments suggest that the ‘Invincible’ live-action movie might only happen after the animated show ends, but the timeline is unclear as season 4 is already confirmed. Delays could also be due to Rogen and Goldberg’s other projects with Prime Video.

During San Diego Comic-Con, Kirkman hinted that storylines from the first two seasons will come to a climax in season three. “The stakes of the season are really high and the content of the season is really dense. So we’ve set up a lot of stories in season 1 and season 2 that are kind of coming to a head in season three. And so in a lot of ways, every episode does kind of feel like a finale,” he said.

‘Invincible’ season 3 is being made, and season 4 is already confirmed.
