Is Alaqua Cox’s ‘Echo’ Getting Canceled? Marvel Executive Explains

The show, featuring Cox as Maya Lopez, debuted on January 9 but its future is still unclear.

Marvel Studios’ latest series, ‘Echo,’ starring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, sparked a wave of speculation regarding its future. As fans discuss the potential of a second season, Marvel executives and the ‘Echo’ cinematographer, Kira Kelly, recently spoke to The Direct and weighed in on what might be in store.

‘Echo’s lukewarm reception and recent shifts at Marvel Studios raised questions about the likelihood of a second season. Speaking to The Direct, cinematographer Kira Kelly shared her thoughts on a possible continuation. While expressing uncertainty about a second season, Kelly said she’s eager to see Alaqua Cox reprise her role:

“I’m not sure about that. I feel like the world — you know, anything that we can see Alaqua [Cox] would be amazing. Whether it’s another season for her or whether or not she’s in the ‘Daredevil’ show coming up or any other show, I would just love any excuse to see Alaqua perform again.”

Is There Going to be an Echo Season 2?

Echo‘ marked a departure from Marvel’s typical release strategy. It is the first of the studio’s series to launch all episodes simultaneously and is available on Hulu until April 9, 2024. The five-episode series is part of Phase Five of the MCU and falls under the ‘Marvel Spotlight’ banner.

Despite its unique aspects, including being the first Marvel Studios television release with a TV-MA rating and featuring a Choctaw language dub, the future of ‘Echo’ remains speculative. Currently, ‘Loki’ is the only Marvel series on Disney+ to have received a second season.

Given the competing interests with other shows like ‘Moon Knight,’ ‘Ms. Marvel,’ and ‘Hawkeye,’ ‘Echo’ may not be at the top of Marvel’s list for a follow-up season.

However, the series may not be entirely sidelined. ‘Echo’s storyline is closely tied to the events of the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in ‘Echo,’ and Charlie Cox, reprising his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, are set to continue in this new series.

This connection opens the possibility for Maya Lopez to reappear and interact with these characters.
