According to reporter Daniel Richtman’s recent tweet, Catherine O’Hara, known for her roles in ‘Schitt’s Creek’ and ‘Home Alone,’ is in talks to join the cast for the second season of HBO’s ‘The Last of Us.’
As per Richtman, O’Hara is being considered for the role of Gail. This is a character newly introduced for the television adaptation, not from the original video game narrative. As of now, the specifics of Gail’s character remain under wraps. Richtman’s tweet read:
“A big-name actress is in talks for a new role in ‘The Last of Us,’ Season 2.”
O’Hara’s involvement, however, is not yet set in stone. As the negotiations are still ongoing, there is a possibility that another actor may eventually fill the role. If confirmed, O’Hara would join a lineup of cast members, including Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett, and Melanie Lynskey, all of whom have had limited appearances in the show.

Latest Updates About ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2
The news of O’Hara’s potential casting comes as HBO gears up for the filming of Season 2 in British Columbia, with production expected to last through most of 2024. The network has already announced a 2025 premiere date for the new season.
Created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, ‘The Last of Us‘ premiered in January 2023. Based on the popular video game franchise, the series explores a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a pandemic caused by a fungal infection. The first season mirrors the 2013 game and follows Joel and Ellie, portrayed by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
The second season promises to adapt elements from the 2020 sequel, ‘The Last of Us Part II,’ and will introduce new characters, including Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever), Jesse (Young Mazino), and Dina (Isabela Merced). It’s also rumored that the new adaptation will possibly span multiple seasons.
Casting for Season 2 was temporarily halted in May 2023 due to the Writers Guild of America strike. Kaitlyn Dever’s casting as Abby was announced on January 9, 2024, followed by Young Mazino as Jesse and Isabela Merced as Dina. Due to an absence of scripts, actors auditioned with scenes from ‘The Last of Us Part II.’
