The production of Season 4 is in full swing in Vancouver, Canada. This season marks a significant shift in the series’ usual timeline, as it will premiere later than previous seasons on The CW.
At the Television Critics Association event this month, The CW’s Dennis Miller and Brad Schwartz said that fans could expect the final season in the fall of 2024. The presidents are all hyped up about the upcoming episodes, with Miller saying:
“[Season 4] is going to blow your minds.”
Schwartz added:
“It’s the best season yet. It’s just incredible. I watched the first episode last night; it’s gonna make you cry.”
Why Is This The Final Season?
Despite the strong following and impressive viewership, with Season 3 pulling in an average of 819,000 viewers, it was revealed that Season 4 would be the final chapter for ‘Superman & Lois.’
According to The CW’s entertainment president, this decision came from Warner Bros., and James Gunn’s upcoming DC reboot partly influenced it. Referring to Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ set for 2025, Schwartz explained:
“They don’t want a competing Superman product in the marketplace.”
The Late Release And New Airing Schedule
The delay in releasing Season 4 has raised questions, especially considering how the series ended its third season in June 2023.
Part of the delay is because of the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes last year, which messed with a lot of TV shows, including ‘Superman & Lois.’ The strikes ended in December 2023 but pushed back the production start to January 2024.
On the other hand, under Nexstar’s new management, the series’ final episodes may come out without the hiatuses that affected the previous seasons. The possible plan is to release all 10 episodes of Season 4, one after the other, over 10 weeks.
