The key to Adam Sandler’s financial success was his work on the Netflix romantic comedy sequel, ‘Murder Mystery 2,’ Forbes wrote.
The actor’s impressive income of $73 million in 2023 was largely due to his involvement in and production of three Netflix films. ‘Murder Mystery 2’ was particularly successful, ranking as Netflix’s fifth most-watched film of the year with 173 million hours viewed.
Beyond acting, Sandler wrote, produced, and voiced the animation ‘Leo,’ and took on roles in ‘You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah’ and the sci-fi drama ‘Spaceman.’ His active year also included 44 stand-up comedy shows, all of which contributed to his top earnings.
The Names He Left Behind
Adam Sandler’s earnings placed him above ‘Barbie’ star Margot Robbie, who made $59 million. Robbie, the youngest top-ten earner at 33, also produced the Greta Gerwig film, the biggest box office hit of 2023, and ‘Saltburn.’
The Forbes list also featured Tom Cruise in third place, with Robbie’s ‘Barbie’ co-star Ryan Gosling and Matt Damon in a tie for fourth. Jennifer Aniston, Sandler’s co-star in ‘Murder Mystery,’ landed in sixth place.
Looking back, Tyler Perry was the highest earner in 2022, with Dwayne Johnson leading for the previous three years. Notably, neither Perry nor Johnson appeared in this year’s top 10.
