A sequel to the ‘Road House’ movie is coming, and Jake Gyllenhaal will be back to play his role as Dalton.
Amazon MGM Studio chief Jennifer Salke announced the sequel during a presentation in New York City, saying:
“As we saw this spring the world went crazy for a little movie called ‘Road House.’ Nearly 8 million viewers globally have watched ‘Road House.’ We like to watch these results like a baby.”
There are no details about the plot or if the original cast will return, but it’s been confirmed that Conor McGregor will not be coming back as Knox. He shared his well-wishes for the new movie on Instagram.
‘Road House’ Set a Record For Amazon
‘Road House’s first remake was released on Prime Video on March 21. It became the most-watched debut for Amazon MGM Studios: over 50 million people watched the film within the first two weeks. Amazon decided to work on a sequel considering this success.
The first movie had its controversies, though. Doug Liman expected the film to premiere in theaters, but Amazon decided to release it exclusively on Prime Video. Liman was unhappy with this decision and boycotted the premiere at the South by Southwest Festival. Gyllenhaal later explained that Amazon always intended the movie to be for streaming.
R. Lance Hill, who co-wrote the original 1989 film, also filed a lawsuit against MGM and Amazon Studios for copyright infringement.
The first ‘Road House’ movie is still available for streaming on Prime Video.
