Actor Jake Gyllenhaal celebrated the 20th anniversary of the fan-favorite film ‘Donnie Darko‘ by releasing a series of photos that see his note-filled script, polaroids, and artifacts from the film.
Gyllenhaal, who portrayed the title role in the time travel-focused film, wrote that he had pulled out his script to show his fans and followers in honor of the film’s release anniversary. The actor, who recently appeared in Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home‘ as ‘Mysterio,’ continued his message by highlighting that the movie is a milestone for his acting career. In his own words:
“It was released 20 years ago today. It’s a film that changed my life and my career and it’s been unreal to watch this story find afterlives with new audiences and new generations, and yet, what Donnie said to Roberta Sparrow is still true: ‘there is so much to look forward to.'”
Then the BAFTA-nominated actor thanked his fans and followers who have asked him about the movie, which caused confusion in minds, at every turn even the years passed, and concluded his words as follows:
“Thank you to all the fans who’ve come up to me over the years with that confused look on their faces and asked me: ‘what the f**k is Donnie Darko about??’ Happy 20th Donnie! Let’s keep confusing people. Here’s to 20 more.”
Jake Gyllenhaal’s post received highly positive feedback from fans of the psychological thriller film starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, Mary McDonnell, Patrick Swayze, Holmes Osborne, Noah Wyle, Beth Grant and Katharine Ross; a great number of Instagram users wrote that ‘Donnie Darko’ is their favorite.
They are not unfair when saying that; the film directed by Richard Kelly was listed number 2 in Empire Magazine’s “50 Greatest Independent Films of All Time” and was marked as one of the 500 greatest movies of all time despite its poor box office performance.
