James Cameron recently an exciting update on the future of the ‘Terminator’ series.
Cameron told Empire Magazine that he has a solid plan to bring the movie back to life, and he’s confident it will be better than the original films.
Cameron said he believes the key to making the ‘Terminator’ franchise exciting again is to focus on fresh characters and stories. According to Cameron, fans weren’t as interested in the older characters who had been around for years. He thinks it’s time to introduce new people in the Terminator world who can win over today’s viewers.
“You get too inside it, and then you lose a new audience because the new audience care much less about that stuff than you think they do,” he explained. “That’s the danger, obviously, with ‘Avatar’ as well, but I think we’ve proven that we have something for new audiences.
He explained that the new characters will be ordinary people who don’t get help from any big organizations. They’ll be fighting to survive, but they’ll still try to do the right thing. “And then you throw AI into the mix. Those principles are sound principles for storytelling today, right?”
Cameron is sure that this fresh direction is the best way forward. He said that the new ‘Terminator’ films will not only be possible but will also ‘kick ass.’ “This is the moment where you jettison all the specific iconography,” he added.
At the end of the interview, Cameron hinted that his plans for the new ‘Terminator’ film are more than just ideas — he has something concrete in mind.
