James Gunn Debunks Rumors About His Involvement In New Justice League Movie

Gunn is currently developing several new projects for the rebooted DC Universe with Peter Safran, but ‘Justice League’ is apparently not among them.

As DC Universe is about to kick off its first phase, ‘Chapter One: Gods and Monsters,’ with ‘Creature Commandos’ on Max this week online rumors began swirling about an adaptation of ‘Justice League: The New Frontier’ written and directed by James Gunn.

Gunn addressed these rumors on Threads, writing, “Nope, sorry. No truth to this whatsoever.” He then added, “That said I love ‘New Frontier,’ and its magical alternate history is a big influence on DC Studios.”

‘The New Frontier’ comic storyline written by Darwyn Cooke takes place in 1950s America, where heroes are outlawed. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman continue to operate but with conflicting agendas until they team up against The Centre.

Based on Gunn’s words, there’s a chance that the Centre will appear as the main villain in the DCU. In fact, rumors suggest he could debut in the upcoming ‘Lanterns’ series.

‘Lanterns’ is currently casting, with Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, and Kelly MacDonald and Garret Dillahunt in other roles. The show will follow the Green Lanterns as they work to solve a murder mystery on Earth which Gunn says will eventually impact the entire DC Universe.

There are currently no plans to bring back the Justice League team in ‘Chapter One.’ However, 2025’s ‘Superman’ movie will feature some of the team members, including Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific.
