James Gunn recently spoke with Dean Lorey on Rotten Tomatoes TV and hinted at the potential revival of ‘Wonder Woman’ through the animated series ‘Creature Commandos.’

During Lorey and Gunn’s conversation, a clip was shown featuring the line: “Cersei claims to be the rightful heir to the throne of the all-female island nation of Themyscira, perhaps mythical, perhaps real.” Themyscira, famously known as ‘Wonder Woman’s homeland, is a pivotal location in DC Comics lore. Following the clip, the screen displayed the question: “What does this world know of ‘Wonder Woman’s home?”

Themyscira, a fictional sovereign city-state and archipelagic island nation, plays a central role in DC Comics mythology as the birthplace of ‘Wonder Woman’ and the Amazons. Lorey asked Gunn about the general awareness of Wonder Woman and Themyscira in the show’s universe. He said, “I think people are aware of a ‘Wonder Woman,’ so, yeah, I think there’s some belief that it exists. But I don’t know how worldwide known it is, James.”

James Gunn responded by keeping the mystery alive. “I think it’s coming at a point in time when people have heard of Themyscira, and now people are starting to believe that it exists. But still, some people don’t believe the story of, you know, an island of all women, so it’s just becoming… people are just becoming aware of it.”

Then the question “Which characters are these” appeared on the screen. Gunn continued, laughing, “I don’t think we’ve definitely decided for sure who they are. I think I know who a couple of them are, but I don’t want to say it here on Rotten Tomatoes because I don’t want it to be forever considered canon.” So, we don’t know for sure, but it seems it’s possible to see Wonder Woman in ‘Creature Commandos.’

‘Creature Commandos’ is an animated series produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. It follows a monster black ops team assembled by Amanda Waller. All seven episodes were written by series creator James Gunn, with Dean Lorey serving as showrunner.
