DC Studios announced earlier this week that Kyle Chandler would play Hal Jordan in ‘Lanterns.’ Entertainment insider Jeff Sneider recently revealed that before Chandler accepted the part, the studio approached at least five big names, all of whom turned down the offer.
The actors were reportedly concerned about the baggage left behind by 2011’s ‘Green Lantern.’ The Martin Campbell-directed film received wide criticism over the years, even from star Ryan Reynolds himself.
Some of the actors reportedly considered for Hal Jordan included Josh Brolin, Matthew McConaughey, and Chris Pine. The fact that DC Studios searched for someone in their 50s or 60s to play the role suggested that the Green Lantern would be portrayed as a Corps veteran in the series.
‘Lanterns’ will likely push John Stewart to the spotlight, and Hal Jordan’s run in the DCU will be short, especially since earlier news suggested that Chandler’s deal covers only one year and includes no movies.
Chris Mundy will be the showrunner and executive producer of ‘Lanterns.’ Damon Lindelof and Tom King will join him in the writer’s room, but as of now, there’s no confirmed release date for the series.
