James Gunn and Peter Safran have already chosen David Corenswet to play Superman in the new DC Universe. They are now searching for new actors to play Batman and Wonder Woman, but it seems unlikely that the actors will match the exact physical descriptions from the comics.
Gunn recently replied to questions about the casting process on Threads. When a fan asked how he would feel about casting an actress who is taller than both Superman and Batman, Gunn replied simply, “Not good. I don’t know where I’d find an accomplished and talented actress 6’5″ or over.”
Corenswet is 6’4″, which is a height that could be matched with a Batman actor. But finding an at least 6’5″ actress for Wonder Woman seems to be much harder. Even popular fan choices like Adria Arjona are much shorter, with Arjona standing at 5’7″.
Some have suggested Gwendoline Christie as a good option for the role of Wonder Woman, but Gunn disagreed. He responded to a fan’s suggestion by pointing out that Christie is “still shorter than Corenswet.”
When a fan asked if the director was joking, he clarified, “No, she’s 6’3″ (and a very, very lovely person by the way), and he’s 6’4″.”
At this point, it’s unclear when Wonder Woman will officially appear in the rebooted DCU. Most of the projects are still in development, with some “looking for a Writer” or being written/rewritten. But Themyscira is expected to be featured before the hero shows up.
A confirmed prequel series, ‘Paradise Lost,’ will focus on a civil war on Themyscira before Wonder Woman’s birth. Its release date is still unknown, but it will likely come out after the shows ‘Lanterns’ and ‘Waller,’ which also have no release date.
