James Gunn’s Batman Makes DCU Debut: Here’s The First Look

Batman appeared in ‘Creatures Commandoes.’

DC fans were in for a surprise with another hint about Batman in the latest episode of ‘Creature Commandos.’ The show released a big DCU Batman promo, featuring the Dark Knight as a silhouette. The reason for this was that James Gunn might be considering changes to the costume design.

The sixth episode of ‘Creature Commandos,’ titled Priyatel Skelet, focuses on Dr. Phosphorus and his backstory. The episode offers brief glimpses of Gotham City, mobster Rupert Thorne, and the Middle Eastern country of Bialya. However, the most exciting moment for loyal DC fans likely came when Batman appeared on a rooftop, peering through a skylight. We see only his silhouette as a bolt of lightning lights up the night sky, revealing his muscular build. His costume remains hidden on purpose, allowing James Gunn and the other creators at DC Studios to finalize the design later.

Gunn confirmed that they chose to feature Batman as a silhouette in ‘Creature Commandos’ because his final suit wasn’t ready. “It’s a great way to show that Batman does exist, he already exists in this universe,” the filmmaker told Rotten Tomatoes about Batman’s appearance in ‘Creature Commandos.’ “Just like with the ‘Superman’ movie, he already exists and is known by the people in Metropolis. We don’t need to hear the origin story again. That’s just a way to introduce that Batman is a part of this universe, he’s an important part of this universe, and he has an impact on it, including defeating dangerous opponents like Phosphorus.”

“This is the DCU Batman… listen, I gotta tell you, I just love Batman, I love him!” Gunn continued. “I’ve loved him since I was a little kid. He’s one of my favorite characters, I have gone on the record in the past when I was at Marvel saying, ‘My favorite character is Batman, I love him.’ We’re going to do great things with him, he’s the most popular superhero in the world and I can’t wait for people to see more of him, along with Superman and together.”

According to director Andy Muschietti, the Batman movie ‘The Brave and the Bold’ is currently on pause, which means fans will have to wait longer for Batman’s DCU debut.

‘Creature Commandos’ is now available to stream on Max.
