The ‘Creature Commandos’ trailer showed Amanda Waller forming a new team with various creatures after being banned from using humans. It also introduced each team member overseen by Rick Flag Sr. and gave a glimpse at Wonder Woman villain Circe.
Another appearance came from Clayface. Since James Gunn previously mentioned that characters from the animated series would show up in live-action, this implied a future interaction between Batman and the Gotham bad guy.
The trailer came months after executive producer Dean Lorey shared the new show’s tone with The Wrap by saying, “That’s going to be the first expression of James Gunn’s DC Universe. We’re considering that canon, and I think it expresses his perspective, tonally, on where he wants the universe to go.”
Lorey explained, “It’s ‘Suicide Squad.’ He’s done it. People aren’t going to be surprised by what it is, but I think they’ll be really encouraged to see how completely it’s going to inform this new version of the DCU, which I’m very excited about.”
The Max series brought in Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. These actors are also expected to play their characters in upcoming live-action versions.
Frank Grillo is already confirmed to make his live-action debut as Rick Flag Sr. in the upcoming ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and the ‘Superman’ movie, following his debut in ‘Creature Commandos’ on December 5.
